Plants vs. Zombies is back with crazier plants and wackier zombies
Plants vs. Zombies™ 3 is a popular tower defense game that forces players to strategize their plant placements to defend themselves from the impending zombie onslaught. Developed by PopCap Games, this title follows the tried-and-true method of the Plants vs. Zombies franchise, but this time, digging deeper into their roots to deliver fresh gameplay while retaining what we love about the first game.
Plants vs. Zombies™ 3’s casual gameplay invites back players with its new visuals and brand-new plants with wackier zombies, and crazier levels. There are also newly introduced mechanics to keep the overall gameplay fresh.
Beloved franchise returns to its roots better than ever
At its core, Plants vs. Zombies™ 3 retains its casual tower defense gameplay, opting to remain in its roots while thinking of more ways to vary gameplay by introducing wackier plants we’ve never seen before, new zombie variants with unique effects, and distinct level with special layouts and conditions to engage players in the challenge to defend their house against the mind-eating zombies.
The overall narrative is revamped, with Dr. Zomboss' return, he transforms Neighborville into a zombie paradise. Embark on this journey as you muster the strength to fight back and journey through the fog with a team of heroes in a story that’s crazier than ever to free the citizens. While the story shift is much appreciated, its simplicity leads to players being uninterested in the overall plot.
The game remains ever vibrant with new sprites for the overall game, leaning toward more cartoonish vibes and livelier animations. Additionally, the game now features a building mode that facilitates buffs and plant cultivation while you’re out there fighting the horde. However, some players noted the dislike to the overhaul of graphics and new looks of iconic characters, plants, and zombies.
A must-try follow-up
Plants vs. Zombies™ 3 successfully revisits the beloved tower defense mechanics of the series while introducing new plants, zombies, and mechanics to keep the gameplay fresh. Its vibrant new visuals and added features, such as building mode, appeal to both new and returning players. However, the simplified narrative and graphical overhaul may not resonate with everyone. Overall, it’s a fun and engaging continuation of the classic franchise.
